Enquiry into Weapons of Mass Destruction does not go far enough

February 9, 2004 6:00 PM

Jane Carr, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Milton Keynes states: "It's time we had the real facts. People in Milton Keynes are not confident in the Hutton report, they want real answers."

Jane met with Sir Menzies Campbell, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, on a recent visit to Milton Keynes. Jane was keen to discuss her dismay at the limited scope of the Hutton Report and the new enquiry.

Speaking after the Prime Minister announced the enquiry by Sir Richard Butler, Jane Carr said: "The enquiry should not only investigate the quality of intelligence which was provided to the Government in the build-up to the Iraq war, but the judgements which were made by the politicians about those intelligence assessments."

Jane states: "It's time we had the real facts. People in Milton Keynes are not confident in the Hutton report, they want real answers. The Liberal Democrats have been asking for an independent inquiry into the controversial aspects of the build up to the Iraq war for many months. The remit for this new enquiry is equally unacceptable. A full wide ranging public enquiry is the only way to restore confidence."
