Building work has started at St Mary's Church of England Primary School, Wavendon, to provide for the extra children served by the school, as it grows from a first school to a 4-11 primary school. The extension will provide new classrooms, a library and activity rooms, plus an outside games area equipped with play facilities.
The first turf was cut this month by Liberal Democrat Councillor Sandra Clark, cabinet member for children and young people, and headteacher Sue Vint.
The £528k extension will be available for pupils when the new school year starts in September.
Headteacher Sue Vint is confident that the extension will enhance the school and community facilities. She said: "This extension is great news for us. Pupils will benefit from the extra facilities and it is so good that the school, which has been in Wavendon since 1851, is growing and developing into the 21st Century."
Councillor Clark added: "Milton Keynes is committed to improving our existing schools to meet growing demand, and I am pleased that we are able to invest in the future of the Wavendon community."
