Six New Primary Schools for Milton Keynes

March 24, 2007 12:00 AM

Cabinet members have given the green light to six new primary schools being built across Milton Keynes, to cope with the extra education demands of Milton Keynes' expansion.

The six schools are set to be phased in over the next three to four years, to house hundreds of pupils who will need somewhere to learn.

The Council has been consulting at an early stage with interested parties such as parish and town councils.

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, including strong support from Milton Keynes Partnership for the proposed new schools.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Euan Henderson, cabinet member with responsibility for new school building, said: "We need to keep up the momentum and the school building programme in Milton Keynes cannot stand still. The city's expansion means the arrival of more children, as well as an increase in our own "home grown" population.

"Each of these schools will be an important focus for its local community, and will provide leisure and sports facilities, as well as other social activities."

The schools are planned for:

• Tattenhoe Park

• Central Milton Keynes - as part of the "West End" development

• Newton Leys

• The western expansion area (two schools)

• Phase 1 of the Brooklands development in the eastern expansion area.
