A 21st century sports and leisure centre in Milton Keynes has received the official seal of approval - barely a year after it opened.
Hertsmere Leisure, the Charitable Trust that manages the Oakgrove Centre in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, has just been informed of its success in achieving Quest registration, the UK quality scheme for sport and leisure.
This follows a mystery visit as well as an in-depth assessment of all aspects of the Centre's operation including staffing issues, marketing, environmental control, overall management, and health and safety.
The Centre opened in April 2006 and to achieve registration in such a short space of time is testament to the input of the staff and the support of the Council. The assessors were particularly complimentary about the Centre's comprehensive quality management and health and safety systems, the opportunities for disadvantaged groups to use the facilities, the high standard of the facilities and the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff.
Liberal Democrat councillor Euan Henderson, cabinet member for Leisure, Sports and Community Services, said: "Hertsmere Leisure and the Council can be justifiably proud of achieving this award so soon after the Centre opened. It provides an excellent opportunity to build upon the good work already in place. It is a tribute to Hertsmere staff who work hard to provide high quality services for the Centre's users."
Oakgrove Leisure Centre is located at the junction of the V10 and the H7. It is an ideal venue for both sporting and cultural events, with a wide range of facilities for hire and casual use. For further details, including Beaumonts Fitness Club membership, ring (01908) 528852.
