"Credit crunch" victims facing redundancy will not have to face this trauma alone, thanks to the advice being offered by an employment service run by Milton Keynes Council.
The Employment Support Team can offer a range of support to those residents facing the prospect of losing their jobs or to those seeking a way back into work. As the recession bites, council employment support workers are being called on to help more and more because thousands of workers are facing a bleak new year. Major retail chains such as Woolworths and MFI have already been forced to close and many companies are preparing to make workers redundant.
To meet this challenge, the Employment Support Team are stepping up the advice they offer to job hunters ranging from one-to-one advice to retraining, careers advice and help with writing CVs and with interview techniques. The team also offers:
• Job search skill training courses
• Information on training opportunities in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area
• One-stop employment and training road shows taken to various estates in the city - the next road show will be held in Conniburrow on Thursday, 26 February, from 10 am until 3 pm at 158 Ramsons Avenue.
Liberal Democrat cabinet member Councillor Vanessa McPake said: "These are tough times for everyone. It is important that the Council offers as much support as possible to get residents back into work if they have been unfortunate enough to lose their jobs."
