MK Youth Council Urge Support for Local Discount Scheme

February 6, 2010 9:22 PM

The Milton Keynes Youth Cabinet are urging retailers in Milton Keynes to sign up with discounts and offers for young people as part of the new "All in 1" card scheme for children and young people in Milton Keynes.

The All in 1 card, due to be launched in the spring, will be available to children and young people aged 5 to 18 who are in full-time education and resident in Milton Keynes. It will act as an identity card, a concessionary bus fares card and a discount card for shops and restaurants in Milton Keynes.

Vanessa Tarrier, member of the Youth Cabinet, comments: "We hope that local businesses will see this as an opportunity to help support the needs of young people in Milton Keynes while strengthening their young people customer base. We've just started approaching shops and restaurants, and already we have Pizza Express, Pineapple and Miss Diva on board with some great discount offers. All businesses offering discounts will be publicised on the website at www.mysaymk.com when the scheme goes live later this year."

Liberal Democrat councillor Sam Crooks, Leader of Milton Keynes Council, added: "Milton Keynes Council is delighted to be working in partnership with the Youth Cabinet on a scheme which will offer such a wide range of benefits to young people in Milton Keynes. We've been most impressed by the proactive way in which the Youth Cabinet have campaigned to get the All in 1 card up and running. The initiative will be run and administered by Milton Keynes Council as part of the concessionary bus fares scheme. However, it is thanks to the Milton Keynes Youth Cabinet, an elected body of 11-19 year olds, that the scheme has got off the ground so quickly, as they had identified it as one of their key campaigns for 2009-2010."

The card will be the size of a credit card and will have the nationally accredited PASS hologram logo, which is endorsed by the Police and Trading Standards. A similar card has been successfully launched in West Sussex, where 35,000 cards are already in use and more than 140 shops and business signed up to the scheme with offers and discounts.

Retailers interested in offering discounts or offers as part of the scheme should contact Emma Hosking on 01908 253781 or email emma.hosking@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
