Milton Keynes Council has installed five Information Access Points around Milton Keynes. The interactive computer-based facilities have been funded in partnership with parish councils and are located in
• Wolverton Town Hall
• Newport Pagnell library
• Woughton Community Council Offices in Netherfield
• Campbell Park Parish Council Offices in Fishermead
• Stantonbury Parish Council Offices in Bradville.
The Information Access Points are free to use and will be especially useful for residents who do not have Internet facilities at home and/or those that do not find it easy to travel to the Council's offices in central Milton Keynes.
The Access Points are connected to the Internet, and allow access to Milton Keynes Council's website and a number of other websites such as JobCentre Plus, NHS Direct and DirectGov. In addition, they provide free telephone access to Milton Keynes Council and to some outside services, including the Citizens Advice Bureau. Other facilities include printing web pages, scanning documents, taking photographs (via a webcam), and sending information by email.
Liberal Democrat councillor Vanessa McPake, cabinet member for communities, said: "The new Information Access Points are valuable facilities which will provide a new way for residents to get help and information from Milton Keynes Council and from other service providers. The Access Points have great potential - their versatility allows a range of purposes to be fulfilled, from looking at bus timetables to searching for a job or applying for a continuing education course."
