Blue Box Bonanza6.00.00pm GMT Sat 31st Jan 2004 Following a Liberal Democrat initiative to minimise waste and boost recycling levels in Milton Keynes, nearly 6,000 more residents have asked for blue recycling boxes. Officers called on households across Milton Keynes to find out about their awareness, knowledge and understanding of recycling and to encourage them to participate in the recycling scheme. The visits also generated a number of other requests and comments. Garden waste, dumped rubbish, non-collection, and new residents information were among the issues raised. Liberal Democrats have always supported caring for our environment. Lib Dem Cllr Douglas McCall, Cabinet member responsible for the Environment said, "Awareness of waste issues are the foundation of any recycling initiative. It is essential that everyone truly understands how important it is and have all the details they need to take part. This initiative will not only benefit our environment but also help us to reach government recycling targets." The initiative was organised by Milton Keynes Council in conjunction with Network Recycling - a national not-for-profit organisation that is involved in community recycling schemes - and funded through the Landfill tax credit scheme. If you want to take part in the Council' s recycling scheme please contact the Environmental Services helpline on 01908 252570
