Success of Green Waste Collection Introduced by Liberal Democrats

Green waste collections in Milton Keynes have soared. The popular green bins are being used by over 25,000 households across Milton Keynes.

Well over 3,000 tonnes of garden waste have been collected since this year's collection season started in March. This has already exceeded the total amount collected in 2003, and is almost three times the amount collected in the same period a year ago.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Douglas McCall, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "This is marvellous news and yet again shows that the people of Milton Keynes have embraced recycling. They clearly love the garden waste scheme.

"This means that much less waste is now being sent to landfill, saving money for council taxpayers.

"Milton Keynes is once again one of the country's leaders in recycling. But we still need to recycle and compost more, so that even less has to be sent to landfill. We need all our residents to help."
