Milton Keynes Council Praised in Audit Commission Review

12.28.16am GMT Thu 23rd Dec 2004

Milton Keynes Council is now well placed to improve the way it works and the services it provides to local people, according to The Audit Commission's 2004 Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA), which assesses all county and unitary councils. Liberal Democrat Milton Keynes has consolidated its 2003 "fair" rating, scoring 3 out of a possible 4 for the quality of its services.

The CPA looked at how the Council is run and assessed the performance of individual services on a scale of 1 to 4 (4 being the highest score). The Audit Commission noted mixed results, identifying improvements in social care and housing over the last year, but noting that the rate of improvement has slowed down in some areas including leisure, transport and housing benefits.

The report identified the need to focus on those services and to continue to pay attention to maintaining and improving the better performing services. It also noted that the council has continued to invest in changes designed to deliver lasting improvements in services, including a Public Private Partnership.

"We are pleased with this assessment and would like to congratulate all our staff for their efforts," said Councillor Isobel Wilson, Leader of the Council. "We have come a long way since the Council was rated 'poor' under the previous Labour administration. We are now on track to improve even further."
