Business as Usual Following Recycling Factory Fire

11.36.35pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 4th Apr 2005

Milton Keynes Council officers are working flat out to maintain normal service to the public, following the major fire at the Recycling Factory at the weekend.

A substantial part of the building, in Colts Holm Road, Wolverton, was damaged after fire broke out on Saturday, 2 April. Fire officers are still investigating the cause.

However, pink sacks will still be collected on the usual day, although it may be a bit later in the day than normal. Garden waste collection will be unaffected.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Douglas McCall, Cabinet member with responsibility for recycling, said: "Of course this is a real blow, and we are still looking at the longer-term implications of this fire, but we are doing our best to minimise any disruption to the public."
