12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 2nd Sep 2005

Congratulations must go to A-level students who are celebrating across Milton Keynes, following impressive exam successes at local schools.

For the seventh year running, students at the city's schools have increased the quality of their A-level passes with improvement in the proportion of students with the highest grades A and B. Overall passes (grades A to E) were in line with the national figure.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Sandra Clarke, cabinet member for schools, said: "The dedication and professionalism of teachers in Milton Keynes schools, coupled with the hard work and motivation of students, have ensured that young people across Milton Keynes are equipping themselves successfully for the next steps in their careers."

At Denbigh the pass rate was in line with the national figure. The quality of students' passes has shown a large improvement reflected in the high number of top grades achieved by students this year.

Results at Leon School and Sports College improved significantly on last year both in terms of the overall pass rate and the quality of students' grades.

Lord Grey School is delighted with its 97% pass rate and the very high performance of several students. The percentage of higher-level passes has also increased. All students studying French, Italian, Spanish and Russian scored an A or B grade. Three students scored grade A in all subjects and will be taking up places at Oxford and Warwick to read French and Italian, History and Law.

Ousedale's students are celebrating very strong achievements with a 98% pass rate. Best performing students showed very high achievement with six students gaining three or more grades As at A-level. The quality of overall passes was very high and remains well above the national average.

There was good news at Radcliffe, with a much improved pass rate. Results in English were particularly strong. Several individual students gained higher grades in all subjects

At St Paul's, the pass rate was well above the national figure and the overall quality of passes showed an improvement on last year. Students did particularly well in art, English, mathematics, physics, psychology, and health and social care. Two students gained the top grade in all their subjects.
