Recycling Rules OK

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Jun 2006

An open morning at Milton Keynes Recycling Factory was part of the "Big Recycle Week", a national campaign to remind people of how, where and what they can recycle. Over 300 people turned out to visit the recently re-opened recycling facility.

And it would seem that Milton Keynes residents are definitely getting the message - council statistics for this month reveal that the level of recycling was a massive 38.5%, which is way above the national average which is in the low 20s.

Councillor Douglas McCall, Liberal Democrat cabinet member responsible for the environment said: "This is a great achievement for the residents of Milton Keynes, but we mustn't become complacent. We still need to increase our levels of recycling to make sure we do not break the landfill limits set by Government for the future."
