An event to celebrate the formal completion and handover of phase one of the new Oakgrove Secondary school was held at Middleton on Tuesday 18th July.

The £5.5M project, which includes a new kitchen, dining hall, library and specialist teaching rooms was designed by Architecture MK and built by locally based construction firm - Rok Build. Oakgrove School and Leisure Centre opened in September 2005 as part of the Liberal Democrats' accelerated school building programme. The school has been designed to meet very high environmental and sustainability standards.

Cllr Euan Henderson, Lib Dem Cabinet Member with responsibility for the new school build programme, said: "We are delighted with this new facility. We programmed this project to finish in mid July to allow the school lots of set up time before the new school year. It has completed bang on schedule and that it testament to the efforts and skills of all involved with the project''

Work is already underway for the next phase of the school, which is scheduled to complete in July 2007.
