Milton Keynes has been named as the best place in the UK over the past decade to find work.
The number of jobs created in the city leapt forward by 35,500, up 36%, between 1995 and 2004, according to a report released this month by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).
This rise was the fastest growth rate in the UK in relation to the size of population, ahead of Portsmouth (32%), Preston and Reading (25%) and double the rate of growth in neighbouring Northampton (18%).
The report highlights that the city's economic growth is continuing to match the growth in the number of people living in the Borough, which has surged to 216,000.
Liberal Democrat councillor Euan Henderson, cabinet member responsible for economic development, welcomed the news about the city's employment success. He said: "This report shows what a vibrant economic centre Milton Keynes has become and that employers have recognised that our city is a great place to do business.
"The city is obviously attracting creative and hard-working people and that is why Milton Keynes continues to bring both new residents and new companies in ever-increasing numbers."
